Pirates too much for JNT at Fall Camp

ORLANDO, Florida – Seven runs in the span of three innings was more than enough for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they defeated the Junior National Team by a score of 9-1 at the Fall Instructional League Camp.

Jonathan Paquet (Ancienne Lorette, QC) got the start for the Canadians, and allowed one run on two hits and two walks over two innings of work.

The Pirates scored their first run in the bottom of the first when an RBI single drove the runner from third to make it 1-0.

Pittsburgh increased their lead to 4-0 in the third on a two-run double and an RBI single against Canadian reliever Brian Bardis (St-Constant, QC).

The Pirates added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when a three-base error scored a run followed by a sacrifice fly to bring in the second run. It is now 6-0 for Pittsburgh.

Iannick Remillard (Valleyfield, QC) came in to pitch in the fifth but could not stop the bleeding. A leadoff single, followed by a double made it 7-0. With two outs and a runner on third, a walk, followed by an infield single drove in another run to make it 8-0.

The Pirates scored their ninth run in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Joel Pierce (Windsor, ON). With one out; a single, a stolen base and another single drove in the final Pittsburgh run.

Pierce threw the final three innings, allowing only the one run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Canada broke the shutout in the top of the ninth when Rowan Wick (North Vancouver, BC) hit an RBI single to drive in Emmanuel Forcier (St-Hyacinthe, QC) to make it 9-1.

The Junior National Team will play their final game of the Fall Instructional League Camp on Wednesday, October 14th at 10 AM when they take on the Atlanta Braves at Champion Stadium at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
