We are very excited to welcome Baseball Canada back to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo this summer! We are thrilled to be your hosts for this year’s 2023 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship and 13U Western National Championship presented by Diversified Transportation Ltd.

ABOUT FORT MCMURRAY

Fort McMurray is located in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB). The RMWB is a collection of several communities, of which Fort McMurray is the urban centre. Fort McMurray offers a wide range of services, including hotels, restaurants, retail stores and more. ABOUT THE VENUE

The two fields for the 2023 13U Western Championship are:

  • Bob Campbell Field, located next to Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place (entrance also through Legacy Dodge Field at MacDonald Island Park)
  • Howard Pew Park, Waterways neighborhood, Fort McMurray

The two fields for the 2023 18U National Championship are:

Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place is located at MacDonald Island Park, Canada’s largest recreation centre which features a full service facility including the Miskanaw Golf Club and Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre are several amenities, including the Syncrude Aquatic Centre, Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre, indoor running track, CNOOC Field House 1 & 2, Pepsi Climbing Wall, squash and racquetball courts, and more. Each player, coach, chef de mission, and umpire will also have complimentary day pass access to MacDonald Island Park on behalf of the 2023 Host Committee by showing your event accreditation to Guest Services to obtain your daily wristband.

MacDonald Island Park is also home to the Miskanaw Golf Club. From August 17th up to and including August

22nd, the following discounts are provided for participants, coaches, chef de missions, umpires, and Baseball Canada representatives. They include:

OPENING CEREMONIES/WELCOME EVENT

Opening Ceremonies for both championships will take place Wednesday, August 16th at 6pm at Legacy Dodge Field and is included in the purchase of your tournament pass. Participants will have a casual Welcome BBQ that will take place right after opening ceremonies in SMS Stadium. Start time will be approximately 6:45pm as noted above. This event is complimentary for players, coaches, managers, officials, and Baseball Canada representatives.

All teams are required to wear their uniforms for the Opening Ceremonies. Please come dressed and bring your cleats with you.

PRE-TOURNAMENT MEETING

The pre-tournament meeting for each championship will take place on August 16th at 8:00pm in the Grand Ballroom at Shell Place (MacDonald Island Park). Two team representatives are asked to attend (Head Coach & Chef de Mission). Transportation will be provided back to the hotels after this meeting.

CLOSING CEREMONIES

The Closing Ceremonies for both championships will take place following the 18U Gold Medal Game at Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place, MacDonald Island Park. This will be at approximately 8:30pm on Sunday August 20. All participating teams (Gold, Silver, Bronze medal winners) are required to wear their uniforms for the Closing Ceremonies.

PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES

On behalf of the 2023 Host Committee, we will be offering complimentary use of batting cages prior to game/practice time from August 16th to 21st for both Championships.

    • Cages will be available at Legacy Dodge Field and Ross Hennigar for 18U Nationals.
    • For 13U teams playing at Bob Campbell Field, batting cages are available inside the Suncor Community Leisure Centre (Enter through main entrance and it’s in the Field House past Guest Services)
    • Only turf or running shoes allowed in the cages. No metal cleats.
    • We suggest teams bring some practice baseballs to utilize in the cages.
    • One side of each cage can be used per team prior to their game time.

In addition, each team will have the opportunity to have one complimentary practice session at one of the two event venues for their respective championship.

TEAM PHOTOGRAPHY

Team Photography will take place prior to the Welcome BBQ on Wednesday, August 16th at Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place. All teams are required to wear their uniforms including cleats for their team photography session. Team photos may be pre-ordered online at www.18u.onewolf.ca and www.13u.onewolf.ca

TRANSPORTATION

Local ground transportation is provided by the Host Committee and includes airport pick up/drop off, special event, practice, and game transportation between host hotels and the venues for players, coaches, and chef de missions. Teams are asked to provide your airport arrival and departure times to Jodie Cooper as soon as they are confirmed. A transportation schedule will be shared with each team’s Chef de Mission prior to the championship. A review of each team’s final transportation schedule will be completed for the duration of the tournament on Wednesday during the Pre-Tournament meeting. The block is reserved for a check-in starting August 15th and a check-out on August 22nd.

Teams or Provincial Associations are required to reserve their booking by July 28th. The block will be released after this point, meaning the preferred rate and availability cannot be guaranteed. Upon check-in teams will be required to provide a valid non-prepaid credit card to cover any incidentals that may be incurred during the stay. Should teams choose not to stay at this 13U partner hotel, the Host cannot guarantee the preferred rate nor ground transportation services during the championship event.

SUITE PASSES

Legacy Dodge Field at Shell Place is equipped with a number of private suites for guests to experience the tournament away from the crowds. Baseball Suites have exceptional views of the stadium and include event tickets, VIP entrance and outdoor patio. Premium catering services available to order at an additional cost. Suite capacity is a maximum of 25 guests per suite.
