Isherwood impressive in loss to Braves

ORLANDO- Clayton Isherwood (Van Anda, BC) threw two innings, facing only seven batters and recorded three strikeouts although the Junior National Team lost to the Atlanta Braves by a score of 4-1.

Isherwood struck out the first batter he faced while the second batter reached on error before he retired the next two via strikeout. In the 2nd inning, he proceeded to sit the Braves down in order before calling it a day.

Dayton Dawe (London, ON) picked-up right where Isherwood left off in the 3rd inning by holding the Braves off the scoreboard. Dawe was able to induce a fly-out with a runner on third base and two out in the inning. Dawe also worked his way out of trouble in the 4th when he struck out two batters with a runner standing on 2nd base with only one out.

The Braves struck for three runs in the 5th off JNT reliever Logan Seifrit (Spruce Grove, AB) who was making his first appearance of Spring Training. Seifrit walked the first batter he faced, uncorked a wild-pitch allowing the runner to advance to 2nd, who later scored on a single for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, a double, single and RBI groundout plated two more runs for the Braves.

In the bottom of the 5th, Cory Scammell (Edmonton, AB) singled for the first JNT hit of the game and the second for himself in as many games. With two out, JP Rousseau (Blainville, QC) picked up the first of his two hits on the day, but the JNT were unable to cash-in either runner.

Seifrit settled in during the 6th inning by getting three ground ball outs. One batter did reach base in the inning when the JNT committed their third error of the game.

Ethan Elias (Entwistle, AB) took the mound for the 7th only to see the Braves play a little ‘small ball’ when two consecutive bunts followed by a single scored their fourth run of the game.

Elias sat the Braves down in order in the 8th inning.

The JNT got on the board in the 9th as Dustin Houle’s (Penticton, BC) single with two outs scored Justin Marra (Toronto, ON). Marra had reached on an error and advanced when Rousseau singled for the second time in the game.
