Juniors tamed by Tigers

ORLANDO-The Detroit Tigers scored four runs in the 2nd inning and went on to defeat the Junior National Team 8-2, in Spring Training Camp action.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the top of the 2nd, the Tigers loaded the bases with none out and scored four runs on a hit batter, fielder’s choice, sac-fly and double.

Michael Foster (Pickering, ON) was charged with all five runs as he gave up five hits and one walk, while hitting a batter and striking out one.

The Juniors came back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame as Brandon Collins (Toronto, ON) hit a sac-fly that scored Dustin Houle (Penticton, BC) from third.

Steven Dressler (Burlington, ON) took the bump for the JNT in the 3rd and looked impressive through one inning, striking out one while inducing an inning ending double-play.

The Tigers got to Dressler in the 4th with two outs, as he gave up a double and single which brought home a run. Dressler finished the day going two innings and striking out three batters.

Matt Trimble (Coquitlam, BC) came on for the 5th and 6th innings, and turned in a solid performance as he didn’t give up a run or hit and fanned two batters.

The Juniors threatened in the 6th when Jordan Procyshen (Calgary, AB) and JP Rousseau (Blainville, QC) hit singles to lead-off the inning, only to see the Tigers turn a double-play and strike out a batter to end the frame.

The Tigers put the game out of reach in the 7th, on a single that scored runners from second and third. Michael Clothier (Guelph, ON) gave up the runs on three hits and a JNT error. Clouthier settled down in the 8th, giving up no hits and no runs.

Jerod Bartnik (Surrey, BC) scored the Juniors second run of the game when he was singled home by Kyle Hann (Oakville, ON) with two out in the 7th.

Tanner Spencer (Craik, SK) worked the 9th and gave up one hit while striking out two.

Offensively, the JNT recorded six hits and Rousseau had two of them.
