Juniors come up short against Phillies

Boca Chica-The Philadelphia Phillies Dominican prospects used a six-run 6th inning to beat the Junior National Team 10-8 in Dominican Summer League action.

With the Juniors down 2-1 after one inning, they proceeded to score four times in the top of the 2nd to take a three run lead.

The Juniors were beneficiaries of a hit batter and seven walks which led to the four runs being scored. More damage could’ve been done in the frame as the bases were loaded with only one out before a fly-out and strikeout ended the inning.

The Phillies meanwhile, began chipping away at the lead by scoring a run each in the 3rd and 4th innings. JNT starter Ethan Elias (Entwistle, AB) did not get much help from his defence as they committed four errors during his outing.

Elias threw four innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out one batter.

Michael Clouthier (Guelph, ON) came on for the 5th inning and gave up a single while striking out a batter.

In the 6th, the Juniors added to their lead when Brendan Hendriks (Cochrane, AB) hit a double that scored Justin Atkinson (Surrey, BC) from second base. Atkinson had reached on an error and stole second before Hendriks hit him home.

The Juniors began to unravel in the 6th when the Phillies struck for six-runs to take a 10-6 lead. Steven Dressler (Burlington, ON), who started the inning, struggled with control and was replaced by Matt Trimble (Coquitlam, BC). Trimble allowed four runs (two earned) on a single and double before getting two groundouts to end the inning.

The Juniors got one run back in the 7th before scoring again in the 9th when Bryan Saucedo (Toronto, ON) scored on an RBI groundout from Jacob Robson (Windsor, ON).

Trimble threw scoreless 7th and 8th innings, only facing seven batters while striking out three Phillies.

The Juniors are currently on the field, playing their final game of the Dominican Summer League against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Guerra.
