Houle, Paulencu among Canadians selected on Day 2 of MLB Draft

OTTAWA- Tom Robson (Ladner, BC) became the first Canadian selected in the 2011 MLB Draft when the Toronto Blue Jays took him in the 4th round.

If you count Trevor Gretzky (Thousand Oaks, CA), son of arguably Canada’s most famous athlete Wayne Gretzky, 17 Canadians have been taken through the first 30 rounds of the draft.

Here are some other Canadians that went on Day 2 of the draft:

-Dustin Houle (Penticton, BC) was drafted as a catcher by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 8th round (251st overall). Houle is a member of the Langley Blaze and has played 3rd base with the Junior National Team this season.

-Former JNT member (2006) Chase Larsson (Vancouver, BC) went to the Atlanta Braves in the 9th round (296th overall). Larsson is a member of the Cameron University Aggies based in Lawton, Oklahoma.

-Vaughn Covington (Vancouver, BC) hasn’t pitched in over a year since having Tommy John surgery last September. That didn’t deter the Cincinnati Reds who took Covington in the 11th round (355th overall).

-Adam Paulencu (Sherwood Park, AB) made the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute proud when the San Francisco Giants took him in the 13th round (417th overall). Paulencu is the son of current Baseball Alberta President Don Paulencu.
