National Championships: August 19th recap

Junior

BC 10 Newfoundland 1

In a game that was resumed today because of rain yesterday, BC recorded a 10-1 win over Newfoundland.  Aaron Tyacke (Prince George, BC) led the way for BC as he collected two singles, a double, triple and two RBI’s. Danny Moore (Victoria, BC) was stellar on the mound going four innings and fanning seven to record the win.

Windsor 7 Saskatchewan 0

Skylar Janisse (Maidstone, ON) tossed a complete-game two-hitter and fanned eleven as Windsor blanked Saskatchewan 7-0. Windsor was the beneficiary of six Saskatchewan errors.

Ontario (2) 11 Manitoba 4

Ontario 2 used two, big run scoring innings to defeat Manitoba 11-4. Ontario 2 put six runs across in the second and another four in the fifth to inflict most of the damage. Ryan Panas (Etobicoke, ON) went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI’s while Joshua Wood (Scarborough, ON) was solid on the mound, throwing six innings and only giving up two runs (one earned) in picking up the victory.

Saskatchewan 7 New Brunswick 6

Saskatchewan, playing their second of three games on the day, hung-on to edge New Brunswick 7-6. Logan Calanchie (Yorkton, SK) went six innings on the mound to record the win and Nick Spizawka (Saskatoon, SK) went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Robert Gallant (Chatham, NB) had two hits and one RBI in the loss for New Brunswick.

BC 8 Nova Scotia 5

Sean Sutton (London, ON) was 3-for-4 with four RBI’s as BC held off Nova Scotia by an 8-5 score. Sutton’s double in the second inning scored two runs and teammate Dawson Newman (West Kelowna, BC) tossed four innings on the mound to record the win. Nova Scotia’s Craig Sinyerd (Hammonds Plains, NS) clubbed a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Windsor 7 Manitoba 0

Windsor earned their second shutout and 7-0 win of the day as they beat Manitoba. Tyler Gauthier (Windsor, ON) went the distance and struck out twelve while only giving up four hits and Matthew Cook (Dresden, ON) drilled a two-run homer in the seventh inning

Ontario (2) 10 Saskatchewan 0

Edward Largy (Mississauga, ON) hit a three-run homer and Will Bargel (Mississauga, ON) hit a two-run homer as Ontario 2 proved too much for Saskatchewan with a 19-0 win.

Québec 9 BC 5

Québec held on to defeat BC 9-5 in a slugfest where both teams recorded twelve hits each. Québec broke a 4-4 tie in the fifth with a four run outburst. Michaël Page (L’Épiphanie, QC) and Dominique Samyn (Montréal, QC) each collected two hits and two RBI’s. Keenan Takatch (Coquitlam, BC) hit a solo homer for BC.

Earlier this morning, in a game resumed from Thursday, Québec defeated Ontario 1 by a 6-5 score.

Other scores saw Ontario 1 beat Newfoundland 11-1; Andrew Cooper (Tecumseh, ON) threw a one-hitter as Windsor recorded their third shutout of the day with a 4-0 win over New Brunswick and  Québec also wrapped up a perfect 3-for-3 day as they beat-up on Nova Scotia 9-3. Dany Deschamps (Montréal, QC) led the way with three hits and three RBI’s.

Midget

Alberta 10 Manitoba 4

Alberta scored six runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to earn a 10-4 comeback win over Manitoba. Brendan Rose (Calgary, AB) went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s while Brendan Ethier (Calgary, AB) tossed a complete-game victory that included eight strikeouts.

Ontario 19 Newfoundland 0

Taylor Carr (St. Thomas, ON) hit two homeruns as Ontario thumped Newfoundland 19-0. Dave Logan (London, ON) also had a nice day at the plate going 2-for-3 with four RBI’s while Dan Parsons (Ilderton, ON) picked up the win on the mound.

Québec 8 Regina 3

Francis Desnoyers (Laval, QC) and Pierre-Luc Pépin (Pointe-Calumet, QC) each collected two hits as Québec defeated Regina 8-3. Louis-Karl Pedneault (St-Bruno, QC) tossed 3 1/3 innings on the mound and struck out six batters.

Saskatchewan 5 Nova Scotia 2

Peyton Hillsdon (Moose Jaw, SK) threw five innings of relief as Saskatchewan defeated Nova Scotia 5-2. Hillsdon gave up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two to earn the win and Dean Jaeb (Humboldt, SK) scored what turned out to be the winning run on a wild-pitch in the second inning.

Manitoba 4 BC 3

Marc-Andre Habeck’s (Winnipeg, MB) RBI single in the top of the seventh proved to be the winning run as Manitoba edged BC 4-3. Zane Sawyer (Virden, BC) tossed six innings to get the win while Nolan Powell (Winnipeg, MB) threw a scoreless seventh to record the save.

Ontario 10 New Brunswick 0

Matt Smith (London, ON) tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out eight as Ontario blanked New Brunswick 10-0 in a mercy-rule win. Chris McQueen (London, ON) had two singles, a triple and three RBI’s.

Late scores saw Saskatchewan defeat Newfoundland 11-1 and Québec, led by Nicholas Lecompte (Gatineau, QC) with three singles and two RBI’s, defeated Alberta 6-2.
