Ottawa, ON – Medals were handed out in both Vaughan, ON and Regina, SK on what was an exciting day at the Baseball Canada Championships. Ontario won gold at the 16U Girls invitational by defeating Manitoba who took silver. British Columbia went home with bronze medals after their win over Nova Scotia. At the 21U Men Championship, Québec edged out the host team to capture gold. Silver went to Regina and bronze to Ontario. In Sherbrooke, the 18U Championship gold medal game has yet to be decided. Québec ’17 led New Brunswick 5-1 in the 2nd inning before the game was suspended due to rain. Action will resume at 12:00PM ET on Monday. Saskatchewan won bronze earlier in the day with their win over Québec ’18.

Newfoundland 6 Alberta 5
Starting pitcher Ben Murphy (St. John’s, NL) earned the win in this win striking out 4 over 5 innings on the mound and allowing 3 runs on 2 hits. Keegan Spurrell (Torbay, NL) went 2 for 2 with an RBI and 1 run scored to contribute offensively in the win.
Prince Edward Island 4 Manitoba 3
Kyle Pinksen (Kensington, PE) went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored to help PEI come out on top. Pinksen’s 2-RBI double came in the top of the 7th to give PEI the lead. Starting pitcher Logan MacDougall (Summerside, PE) went the distance striking out 5 over 7 and holding Manitoba to 3 runs to earn the win.
Ontario 9 British Columbia 7
Closer Zac Fascia (Brampton, ON) picked up the win in this one recording 3 strikeouts in his only inning on the mound. Austin Auld (Brampton, ON) was perfect at the plate going 5 for 5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored to provide some offense in the win.
New Brunswick 12 Québec ’18 4
Starter Zach Newman (Miramichi, NB) struck out 7 over 6 innings to help New Brunswick get its 6th straight win of the tournament and secure a spot in the finals later in the day. Jeremie Arseneau (Dieppe, NB) and Jason Doucet (Dieppe, NB) both homered in the win.
Québec ’17 8 Saskatchewan 4
William Sierra’s (Montreal, QC) complete game win guaranteed Québec a spot in the final. Sierra struck out 5 over 7 innings allowing only 1 earned run. Anthony Marcano and Pierre-Olivier Avoine (Gatineau, QC) both went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored in the win.
21U Championship
Québec 3 Manitoba 2
Québec earned a spot in the final in very dramatic fashion with a walk-off win over Manitoba scoring all 3 of their runs in the bottom of the 7th. Starting pitcher Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, QC) went the distance striking out 6 over 7 innings and limiting Manitoba to 2 runs.
Regina 6 Ontario 3
Conner Loeppky (Regina, SK) helped give the host team a spot in the finals striking out 6 over a complete 7 innings while holding Ontario to 3 runs. Jordan Dezotell (Regina, SK) went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs to provide some much needed offense in the win.
British Columbia 10 Nova Scotia 0
Jake MacDonald (White Rock, BC) had a very strong outing at the plate going 3 for 3 with a double, a triple, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored to help BC clinch 7th place at the tournament. Liam Rihela (Surrey, BC) was just as impressive going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, a triple, an RBI and 3 runs scored.
Ontario 10 Manitoba 0
Ontario secured bronze with a decisive win over Manitoba thanks to a big 8-run inning that put this one out of reach early on. Matthew Krutsch (Essex, ON) dominated on the mound striking out 4 over 5 shutout innings allowing only 1 hit. Lee Kucera (Chatham, ON) went 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBIs.
Québec 7 Regina 4
Starting pitcher Hugo Brochu (Montréal, QC) was credited with the win striking out 2 and allowing 4 runs over 5.2 innings on the mound. Jonathan Martin (L’Assomption, QC) and Vincent Dion (Terrbonne, QC) drove in 2 runs each to contribute offensively in the win. Closer Luca Serafin (Québec, QC) was perfect over 1.1 innings to earn the save and help Québec secure gold.
16U Girls
Manitoba 6 British Columbia 5
Manitoba gave themselves a shot at gold with a dramatic 6-5 over BC. Katelyn Heppner (Winkler, MB) came across to score in the bottom of the 7th in the walk-off win. Heppner went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored to lead the charge offensively.
Ontario 13 Nova Scotia 3
Caitlin Tomotsugu (Vaughan, ON) helped send Ontario to the finals with a huge contribution at the plate. Tomotsugu went 4 for 5 with a double, a triple and 2 RBIs. Starting pitcher Stephanie Ellis (Brantford, ON) picked up the win striking out 7 over 5 while allowing 5 runs.
Alberta 7 Québec Blue 0
Alexis Galloway (Okotoks, AB) was a big part of the win for Alberta as her complete game shutout helped his team clinch 5th place in the tournament. Galloway struck out 7 over 7 innings allowing 7 hits. Kennedy Roblin (Sherwood Park, AB) doubled and picked up 2 RBIs to provide some run support.
Québec Grey 18 Saskatchewan 8
Naomie Bérubé (Boucherville, QC) and Chelsea Morgan (L’Ange Gardien, QC) both tripled in the win for Québec Grey. Bérubé went 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored while Morgan came across to score twice and drove in a run. Morgan also earned the win as starting pitcher striking out 4 over 3 innings.
British Columbia 13 Nova Scotia 3
British Columbia put up a huge 10-run inning in the bottom of the 2nd to get the lead that went on to last them the game, winning bronze in the process. Starting pitcher Katherine Rogers (Vancouver, BC) earned the win holding Nova Scotia to 3 runs over 3 innings. Rogers also went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Ontario 11 Manitoba 1
Tess Foreman (Ottawa, ON) struck 9 over 5 innings in what was a complete game win to lead Ontario to gold. Foreman held Manitoba to 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks. All nine players in Ontario’s lineup added at least a hit to the score sheet including Stephanie Ellis (Brantford, ON) who went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.
