Baseball Canada Championships: Medals on the line Sunday

OTTAWA – Saturday was the last day for teams to move up in the standings other than at the 13U National Western in Coquitlam-Moody, BC where semi-final action took place. The gold and bronze medal games are set with Coquitlam-Moody taking on Burnaby (BC1) in the battle for first and South Jasper Place (AB1) vs Oildome (MB2) for bronze.

The match-up at the gold medal game at the Senior Women event is now set in stone as well with Québec 1 facing Ontario 1. Ontario 2 will take on British Columbio for bronze. 16U Girls semi-finals are set to be played out in Saguenay is well. Manitoba vs. Québec 1 and Alberta vs. Ontario make up both semi-finals.

At the 18U event, New Brunswick will take on Québec 1 while Manitoba will face British Columbia for a spot in the final. In Regina, at the 21U event, the semi-final match-ups will be made up of St. Thomas (ON2) vs. Tecumseh (ON2) and Kamloops (BC2) vs. Québec. 13U National Western Championship

Saskatoon (SK1) 11 Regina (SK2) – Saskatoon topped Regina to get their first win of the tournament and finish 7th in the final standings. The loss means Regina takes 8th.

Sherwood Park (AB2) 5 St. James (MB1) 4 – Liam Robertson (Sherwood Park, AB) allowed 4 runs on 1 hit and 6 walks while striking out 7 to earn the win. Cole McGowan (Sherwood Park, AB) went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI in the game.

Coquitlam-Moody 18 Oildome (MB2) 0 – Carlin Dick (Abbotsford, BC) and Jack Seward (Coquitlam, BC) both homered in Coquitlam-Moody’s huge win. Alexander Baan-Meikljohn pitched all 4 innings striking out 4 and limiting Oildome to 2 hits and 1 walk.

Burnaby (BC1) 10 South Jasper Place (AB1) 0 – Evan Hoegler (North Vancouver, BC) shut out South Jasper Place over 5 innings allowing only 3 hits and striking out 5 to earn the win. Russell Young (Cloverdale, BC) doubled and scored twice in the win.

16U Girls Invitational

Manitoba 11 British Columbia 1 – Jenai Buchanan (Crystal City, MB) drove in 4 runs going 2 for 4 in the game to help Manitoba’s offense in the win. Brittney Langlais (Garson, MB) earned the win allowing only 1 run on 4 hits over 5.2 innings on the mound.

Alberta 6 Nova Scotia 5 – Maria Roy (Hammond Plains, NS) goes 5 for 5 driving in 4 runs, but it wasn’t enough to top Alberta. Nova Scotia couldn’t match their 2 runs in extra innings. Reliever Paige Hildebrandt (Edmonton, AB) earned the win for Alberta shutting down the opposition over 1.1 innings to close out the game.

Québec (QC1) 21 Newfoundland 0 – Québec got off to huge lead scoring 13 runs in the first inning. Kim Gendron (Levis, QC) went 3 for 3 with a triple and drove in 4 runs in the win. Bridget Kelly tossed 2 perfect innings to earn the win while striking out 3.

Ontario (ON1) 18 Québec (QC2) 6 – Taylor Delaney (Etobicoke, ON) earned the win for Ontario striking out 8 over 4.2 innings on the mound. Meagan Barry (Etobicoke, ON) went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs to help the offense.

18U Championship

New Brunswick 5 Newfoundland 3 – Brett Mercier (Moncton, NB) drove in 2 runs and tossed two shutout innings against Newfoundland. Declan Buckle (Dieppe, NB) earned the win for New Brunswick entering the game as a reliever and shutting down the opposition.

PEI 8 Saskatchewan 4 – Brodie Koughan (Springvale, PE) threw a full 7 innings on the mound in the win for PEI. Koughan allowed 4 runs, only 1 earned on 7 hits and 1 walk. Matt Barlow (Summerside, PE) had 3 stolen bases and came in to score twice in the game.

Ailes du Québec (QC2) 9 Ontario 6 – Alexandre Bédard (St-Nicolas, QC) tripled and drove in 4 runs to lead Québec’s offensive production. Pierre-Olivier Avoine (Gatineau, QC) earned the win as a reliever allowing only 1 unearned run on 1 hit over 2.1 innings on the mound.

New Brunswick 5 Newfoundland 3 – Bryson Woodworth and Colin Robichaud came in to score on an error in the top of the 8th to win the game in extra inning. Zach LeBlanc (Riverview, NB) drove in 2 runs in the game while reliever Declan Buckle earned the win shutting out Newfoundland over 1 inning.

PEI 8 Saskatchewan 4 – Brodie Koughan (Springvale, PE) tossed a complete game allowing 4 runs, only 1 earned on 7 hits over 7 innings on the mound. Drew Grady (Kensington, PE) provided some offense for PEI in the win by adding a double and an RBI to the scoresheet.

Manitoba 2 Ailes du Québec (QC2) 1 – Branden Hatley (Morden, MB) earned the win on the mound for Manitoba allowing only 1 run over 6.2 innings while striking out 9. Bennet Dalke (La Salle, MB) drove in the winning run in the top of the 7th.

21U Championship

Burnaby (BC1) 4 Manitoba 3 – Austin Gurr (Nanaimo, BC) tossed a complete game for BC allowing 3 runs on 2 hits over 7 innings on the mound. Gurr struck out 4 to earn the win. Darren Honeysett (Port Coquitlam, BC) went 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead BC’s offense.

Ontario (ON2) 5 Kamloops (BC2) 2 – Quinton Twohey’s (London, ON) RBI triple in the 2nd contributed to Ontario’s offensive production. David Lehmann (London, ON) earned the win as a reliever allowing 2 runs on 3 hits over 2 innings.

Saskatchewan 5 Kentville (NS2) 1 – Jonathon Matity (Wilcox, SK) outlasted Kentville’s starter Bradley Fuller (White Rock, NS) allowing only 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks in a full 7 innings. Tanner Ring (Regina, SK) doubled and drove in a run to help Saskatchewan to the win.

Québec 10 Dartmouth (NS1) 5 – Philippe Craig St-Louis (Gatineau, QC) went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and scored twice to lead Québec’s offense. Joey Toupin (Trois-Rivières, QC) earned the win allowing 2 runs on 2 hits over 1.1 innings.

Ontario (ON2) 11 Regina 1 – Turner Spears (Guelph, ON) drove in 3 runs going 1 for 2 with 2 walks to help Ontario to the win. Andrew Calic (Woodstock, ON) earned the win as a reliever allowing 1 run on 3 hits over 2 innings on the mound.

Ontario (ON1) 3 Manitoba 2 – Chris Horwood (Tecumseh, ON) went 2 for 4 with an RBI double to lead his team’s offensive production. Matthew Van Buskirk (Windsor, ON) earned the win on the mound allowing only 2 runs over 5.2 innings.

Kamloops (BC2) 12 Burnaby (BC1) 4 – Will Russell (Kelowna, BC) tossed a complete game for Kamloops allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk in a full 7 innings to earn the win. Michael Dagg (Langley, BC) went 4 for 5 with 1 home run and 2 RBIs to lead his team’s offense.

Ontario (ON2) 4 Manitoba 1 –Matthew Bowden (London, ON) outlasted Manitoba’s starter Tyler Moskalyk (Winnipeg, MB) to earn the win for Ontario. Bowden allowed only 1 run in his complete 7 innings on the mound.

Senior Women Invitational

Ontario (ON1) 11 Ontario (ON2) 0 – Kate Psota (Burlington, ON) went 4 for 4 at the plate in the win for Ontario 1. Kathryn Kennaley (Burlington, ON) tossed a complete game of 5 shutout innings allowing only 2 hits to earn the win.

Québec (QC1) 6 British Columbia 3 – Daphné Gélinas (Repentigny, QC) doubled and drove in 2 runs to provide some offense for team Québec. Gabrielle Perreault (Levis, QC) allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in her complete game.

Ontario (ON2) 6 Québec 21U (QC2) 4 – Elizabeth Benn (Toronto, ON) tossed a complete game allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks over a full 7 innings to earn the win. Kaylee Misuida (Brantford, ON) doubled and drove in a run to help her team to the win.
