OTTAWA- Baseball Canada is pleased to announce that Shawn Bowman, a National Team alumni and former Junior National Team coach, has accepted a position through Major League Baseball that will see the Port Moody, BC native relocate to France in August.

In France, Bowman will wear many hats including coordinating the French National Academy in Toulouse, coaching National Team programs such as 18U and 23U, facilitate coaching clinics and participate in MLB programs throughout Europe.

“This is an opportunity that I’m extremely excited for,” said Bowman. “It will certainly be a change leaving my home and coaching positions here, but this is an opportunity that I simply could not pass up.”

Bowman has spent the past two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the University of British Columbia baseball program and has been a member of the Junior National Team coaching staff since 2014.

“I feel very fortunate to have been involved with the programs at UBC and with Baseball Canada,” added Bowman. “Both have played a major role in my development as a coach and I look forward to following those programs in the future.”

A graduate of the Junior National Team program, Bowman signed with the New York Mets after they selected him in the 12th round of the 2002 draft. His professional career spanned ten seasons and included four stints with the Senior National Team including two IBAF World Cup bronze medals (2009, 2011) and a gold medal at the Pan Am Games in 2011.
