Canada Closes The Group Phase with a Commanding Victory Over El Salvador

CANADA 13-0 EL SALVADOR

The Canadian Junior National Team overpowered El Salvador 13-0 in their last game of the group stage at the U-18 Pan American Championship. The lopsided victory secured second place in Group A for Canada with a record of 5-1.

The Canadians wasted no time getting on the board, erupting for a six-run outburst in the bottom of the second inning. The rally was capped by a Leo Cote (Ayer’s Cliff, QC) bases-clearing double to make it 6-0 after two innings.

On the mound, Canadian starter Adyn Schell (Toronto, ON) flirted with perfection shutting down El Salvador’s lineup over the course of the five innings. He allowed only a walk and a hit while punching out nine, never truly allowing El Salvador to mount a serious threat.

The Canadian offense continued to pour it on in the later innings. Dante Smith (Ajax, ON) provided the Canadians with solid production, picking up four RBI’s and scoring a pair of runs over his 1-for-2 day at the dish. Simon Baker (Cochrane, AB) added to the tally with three RBI’s and a run scored over his 1-for-2 performance.

By the time the dust settled, the Canadian squad had amassed 13 runs on 10 hits, with six different players recording RBIs in the ballgame. The victory marked the third time in four games that Canada has scored 10 or more runs, showcasing the depth and firepower of their lineup.

Looking Ahead
The stage is set for Canada to take on Puerto Rico at the Estadio Nacional Rod Carew on August 9th in a Quarter-final match that can punch Canada’s ticket to U-18 Pan American Championship medal games and in the bigger picture, a spot in the 2025 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.
