OTTAWA-Stubby Clapp (Windsor, ON) has been named the field manager of the Tri-City ValleyCats. The ValleyCats play in the short-season New York-Penn League and are an affiliate of the Houston Astros. Clapp spent last season as the hitting coach for the Class-A Lexington Legends and prior to that he spent two years as a coach with the Rookie League Greeneville Astros. He recently finished his 2010 season as a hitting coach for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League.

The 37 year-old National Team veteran has a wealth of international baseball experience, most notably as a member of the 2004 and 2008 Olympic teams, both the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic entries and as a member of the 1999 Bronze Medal winning Pan Am Games team.

Clapp had a short stint in the majors, appearing in 23 games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2001, after spending nine seasons as a utility player in the minor leagues. He played for the Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the Cardinals, from 1999-2002 and they retired his No.10 jersey in 2007.
