Tickets on sale for 2017 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Thunder Bay

OTTAWA-The Thunder Bay International Baseball Association (TBIBA), organizers of the XXVIII World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017, announced on Wednesday that tickets are now on sale for the event that will take place September 1-10.

The 12-team world championship that will see Canada participate as the host nation has seen many future big leaguers participate in the past including Canadians Russell Martin, James Paxton, Brett Lawrie and Dalton Pompey who was a member of Team Canada when the event was last held in Thunder Bay in 2010.

In 27 all-time U-18 Baseball World Cup events, Canada has won six medals including one gold (1991), one silver (2012) and four bronze (’83, ’87, ’97, 06).

Canada will begin preparations for the 2017 WBSC U-18 baseball World Cup in March for the annual Spring Training Camp in St. Petersburg, Florida. Subsequent camps will take place in April (Extended Spring Training, Orlando) and May (Dominican Summer League Camp) before the finals selection camp in August where 20 athletes will be selected to represent Canada in Thunder Bay.
