Guenther, Lee Lead British Columbia to Back-to-Back Women’s National Championship Gold
WINNIPEG – British Columbia is back on top once again.
British Columbia captured its second consecutive Women’s National Championship gold medal with an 8–1 win over Québec in the 2026 championship game.
B.C. opened the scoring in the first inning when Emma Lecompte (West Kelowna, BC) singled, stole second and came around to score on an error. The offence continued to build from there, breaking the game open with three runs in the third and three more in the fourth.
Kailyn Guenther (Chilliwack, BC) led the way at the plate, collecting four hits and driving in three runs. She delivered a two-run single in the third inning to extend B.C.’s lead to 4–0 before adding another RBI single in the fourth.
Jaida Lee (St. John’s, NL) also helped her own cause, driving in runs with singles in both the third and fourth innings while almost going to distance on the mound. Lee limited Québec to one run over six and one third innings, striking out four and working around traffic with help from a strong defensive performance behind her.
The victory caps another strong national championship run for British Columbia, which successfully defended its title and claimed back-to-back Women’s National Championship gold medals.
Lasorsa-Godmer Walk-Off Double Sends Québec to Bronze
Québec 2 – Blue Royal capped its Women’s National Championship with a dramatic finish, walking off Ontario 7–6 in the bronze medal game.
Ontario opened the scoring in the second inning when Reese Velocci (Toronto, ON) worked a walk and later came around to score on a groundout from Caitlin Tomotsugu (Vaughan, ON). The offence added three more in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Emma Howorth (Toronto, ON) and an RBI fielder’s choice from Victoria Curro (Etobicoke, ON) that gave Ontario a 4–0 lead.
Québec answered right back in the bottom half, using four runs to tie the game. Clara Dupont (Saint-Martine, QC) and Frédérique Noël (Bois-des-Filion, QC) opened the inning with back-to-back singles before Élodie Ciamarro (Mont Saint Hilaire, QC) brought home Dupont on a groundout. Camille Proulx (Laval, QC) followed with an RBI double, and Charlie Marcotte (Repentigny, QC) later delivered a double to help bring Québec even at 4–4.
Ontario moved back in front in the fifth when Emily Baxter (Oakville, ON) reached on a dropped third strike and later scored on a single from Curro. Québec responded again in the sixth, with Elly Lasorsa-Godmer (St-Joseph-du-Lac, QC) singling, stealing third and scoring on a fielder’s choice from Ciamarro to tie the game 5–5.
The back-and-forth continued in the seventh when Ontario loaded the bases and took a 6–5 lead on a walk from Tomotsugu. But Québec had one final answer in the bottom half. Maika Dumais (Quebec, QC) opened the inning with a single and came around to score on a single from Marcotte, tying the game at 6–6. Moments later, Lasorsa-Godmer delivered the walk-off blow, doubling to left field to score Justine Martinet (Mont Saint Hilaire, QC) and secure the bronze medal for Québec.
Lasorsa-Godmer led Québec with the walk-off double and two hits, while Marcotte added a pair of run-scoring hits. Dupont, Noël and Proulx also helped spark the offence in the comeback win.
Placement Matchups
With the loss in the bronze medal game, Ontario closed the tournament in fourth place after pushing Québec to the final inning in one of the most dramatic games of championship day.
Manitoba finished its week on a winning note, defeating Saskatchewan in the fifth-place matchup, while Ontario 2 earned a win over Nova Scotia in the seventh-place game to round out the final day of competition.
