CBHOF releases Canadian baseball survey results

OTTAWA – The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum located in St. Marys, Ontario surveyed over 900 Canadians on a wide variety of baseball topics and today announced the results.

With Covid-19 affecting day-to-day life of all Canadians including the baseball world, the Hall of Fame endeavoured to connect with Canadians to start a conversation about the game in Canada including likes, dislikes, favourite baseball moments and changes that they’d like to see made to the sport.

“At the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, our mission is to champion education, respect, diversity and healthy lifestyles across generations through the power of baseball,” said Jeremy Diamond, Chair of the CBHFM Board of Directors in a statement. “The survey provides some interesting insights into baseball in Canada we hope it sparks further conversations. Like all fans of baseball, we are excited to see baseball return!”

Some key takeaways from a Baseball Canada perspective include:

  • 59% of respondents with children 18 and under have their kids involved in baseball and/or softball

  • According to respondents, the top 3 most valuable lessons taught through baseball are teamwork (89%), sportsmanship (77%) and work ethic (54%)

  • According to respondents, National Team alum Russell Martin is the best Canadian player to don a Blue Jays’ uniform at 74%, followed by Paul Quantrill (12%) and Matt Stairs (11%)
