Chatham Ironmen Shut Out Québec to Capture Men’s National Championship Gold
MIRAMICHI, NB – The Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen finished the 2026 Baseball Canada Men’s National Championship on top of the podium, shutting out Québec 3–0 in Monday’s gold-medal game at Ironmen Field.
The victory completed an impressive response from the tournament hosts, who dropped their final preliminary-round game to Québec before winning three consecutive elimination games to capture the national title.
Chatham entered the final with a chance to avenge a 17–10 loss to Québec just two days earlier. That defeat sent the Ironmen into the quarterfinal round rather than directly into the semifinals, but the hosts quickly regrouped.
The Ironmen shut out British Columbia’s Victoria Mavericks 13–0 in the quarterfinal before defeating Alberta’s Red Deer Riggers 10–4 later Saturday night to earn a place in the championship game.
Québec followed a different route to the final. After finishing preliminary play 3–1 and earning a direct berth into the semifinals, Québec overcame an early six-run deficit to defeat Ontario’s Windsor Stars 17–6 and book a rematch with Chatham.
The championship game looked nothing like their high-scoring first meeting.
Chatham held Québec off the scoreboard throughout the final, while the hosts pushed across three runs of their own to secure the 3–0 victory in front of the home crowd.
The title adds another chapter to Chatham’s history at the Men’s National Championship. The Ironmen also captured gold when hosting the tournament in 1995 and again in 2019.
Québec finished with silver after reaching the championship game for a second consecutive year. Baseball Canada’s 2025 event also saw Québec finish second, behind New Brunswick.
Alberta Edges Ontario for Bronze
The Red Deer Riggers secured bronze with an 11–10 victory over the Windsor Stars in Monday morning’s medal game.
It was the second one-run meeting of the tournament between Alberta and Ontario. Red Deer also edged Windsor 6–5 during preliminary play.
Alberta entered the medal round after finishing 3–1 in Pool B, with victories over Saskatchewan, Ontario and British Columbia earning the Riggers a direct berth into the semifinals.
Their bid for gold ended with a 10–4 loss to Chatham, but Alberta responded in the bronze-medal game, outlasting Ontario by a single run to finish on the podium.
Ontario took a longer route into the final four. The Windsor Stars finished preliminary play 3–1 before shutting out Newfoundland and Labrador 7–0 in the quarterfinal.
Windsor then jumped out to a 6–0 lead against Québec in the semifinal, only to see Québec answer with 17 consecutive runs and end Ontario’s pursuit of gold.
The Stars ultimately finished fourth following another tight matchup with Alberta.
