Halifax is the capital and largest municipality of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, and the largest municipality in Atlantic Canada. Halifax is one of Canada's fastest growing municipalities, and as of 2022, it is estimated that the CMA population of Halifax was 480,582, with 348,634 people in its urban area. The regional municipality consists of four former municipalities that were amalgamated in 1996: Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, and Halifax County. 

Halifax is a major economic center in Atlantic Canada, with a large concentration of government services and private sector companies. Major employers and economic generators include the Department of National Defense, Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Health Authority, Saint Mary's University, the Halifax Shipyard, various levels of government, and the Port of Halifax. Agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry, and natural gas extraction are major resource industries found in the rural areas of the municipality.

Dartmouth is a major community within Halifax with a population approaching 100,000. Dartmouth is linked to Halifax with 2 major bridges, the MacDonald Bridge and the McKay Bridge both of which are toll bridges. Dartmouth has 2 major shopping areas: MicMac Mall and Dartmouth Crossing.

The championships occur during our Natal Day celebrations which mark the creation of Halifax (1749) and Dartmouth (1750).
