OTTAWA – Baseball Canada has announced the Junior National Team roster that will be heading down to the Dominican Republic for the squad’s annual Dominican Summer League Camp. Thirty players have been named to the roster for the camp which takes place from May 18th-27th.

Three players that helped Canada to a 4th place finish at the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship, Justin Atkinson (Surrey, BC), Tom Robson (Ladner, BC) and Jesen Dygestile-Therrien (Montreal, QC) are part of the 30-player roster. All three players are also eligible for June’s MLB First-Year Player Draft.

The JNT will compete in a 13 game schedule, including five doubleheaders, against Major League Baseball affiliated Summer League teams (Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers, Florida Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and MLB Supreme Tournament).

The Dominican Summer League Camp is an important step in the process as the JNT is gearing up for the Americas World Junior Qualification Tournament in Cartagena, Colombia from September 23rd – October 2nd. The top four countries in Colombia will qualify for the 2012 World Junior Baseball Championship in Seoul, South Korea.
