OTTAWA-Baseball Canada is pleased to announce that Baseball Regina has fulfilled all of the elements of the RBI Program (Reaching Baseball Ideals) and is now RBI Approved. Baseball Regina becomes the 13th association to achieve the designation in Canada and also the 6th association in Saskatchewan to do so.
“RBI approval is an important component for Baseball Regina to be recognized as the local association to be involved with for player development from the very young ages through to high school,” says Karen Toffan, President of Baseball Regina.
Known as the Regina Baseball Association when it was established in the mid 80’s, Baseball Regina Inc. has been in existence since 1998. The association has over 500 players registered on over 70 teams from locally organized teams to out of town affiliates.
“It (becoming RBI Approved) will give our organization further recognition as a quality organization for providing quality development of players and coaches,” explained Toffan.
Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) played a significant role in Baseball Regina making the decision to become RBI Approved. With several Baseball Regina board members involved with the Saskatchewan Baseball LTAD Committee, Baseball Regina volunteered to utilize the Rally Cap program at the Junior Rookie level as a pilot project.
“The initiating factor was our organization making another attempt at running the Rally Cap program for our Junior Rookie players,” explained Toffan. “We have implemented the new format into league games/practices, have held a coach's clinic to explain the program and have advertised the program to present and future parents.
Baseball Regina’s commitment to the RBI program and LTAD will go a long way in making the baseball experience a positive and enjoyable one for all of its members. Toffan believes that if the proper tools and resources are made available for coaches, players and parents, the more the association will benefit in the future.
“There has been and continues to be a need for education of the coaches, players and parents as to the importance of LTAD,” noted Toffan. “Whether recreational or competitive, we want to encourage long term commitment to the game of baseball that will be interesting and fun.”
