Juniors thumped by Florida Atlantic University

Boca Raton, FL-This was a game that the Junior National Team would rather forget as they were pounded by Florida Atlantic University 21-1. The loss drops the JNT’s record to 1-1 in exhibition play as they prepare for the Americas World Junior Qualification Tournament in Cartagena, Colombia November 17-27.

FAU jumped on JNT starter, Jesen Dygestile-Therrien (Montréal, QC) in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run homerun that cleared the right field fence.

Therrien did not last through the second inning as FAU added five runs to take an 8-0 lead.

Clayton Isherwood (Van Anda, BC) came on in relief and did not fare any better as he gave up five more runs in the third and two more in the fourth, courtesy of a two-run homer.

Offensively, the JNT offense matched their pitchers struggles as they were held hitless through five innings, while only managing two base runners from a walk and error.

Adam Anderson (Georgetown, ON) entered the game in the fifth and was touched up for five runs before holding FAU scoreless in the sixth inning, the only inning in which they didn’t score.

Chris Shaw (Winnipeg, MB) singled to right to get his team’s first hit of the game in the sixth inning.

Damion Smith (Windsor, ON) led-off the top of the seventh with a walk, advanced to second on a single from Jacob Robson (Windsor, ON) and came around to score when Kyle Hann (Oakville, ON) singled.

The game was called after the top of the seventh.

The Juniors will put this game behind them as quickly as possible and focus their attention on the University of Miami who they will play tomorrow at 6pm ET in Coral Gables, FL.

Skylar Janisse (Maidstone, ON) is expected to start for Canada.
