SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS, Dominican Republic --- TJ Schofield-Sam (Brampton, ON) blasted a two-run homer while Connor O’Halloran (Mississauga, ON) and Jack Seward (Port Moody, BC) turned in solid performances on the mound to lead the Junior National Team to a 7-4 win over the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Brewers.
The win comes on the first day of the annual DSL tour where the juniors will play 13 games over the next nine days.
Schofield-Sam’s homer left the park over the right field wall to put the juniors out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning before scoring a run in the fifth and adding four more in the seventh highlighted by a Raphaël Pelletier (Montréal, QC) RBI single.
The home run and Pelletier’s single were part of just four Junior National Team hits on the afternoon as the squad benefitted from 13 walks issued by Brewers pitchers.
Dasan Brown (Oakville, ON) reached base four times on a single and three walks, scored two runs and stole a base.
On the mound, starting pitcher Connor O’Halloran worked five innings and struck out seven batters while allowing three runs, including a fifth inning solo homer, on six hits and a walk to earn the win.
He was relieved by Jack Seward who tossed four innings of one-run ball allowing a run on one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.
