DUNEDIN, Florida - The Junior National Team Selection Camp moved to sunny Florida earlier this week as the Juniors look to ramp up the workouts in preparation for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup. This last portion of the camp will feature three exhibition games against International Competition where Canada will face off against the United States, Australia and Chinese Taipei.

TBJ PLAYER DEVELOPMENT COMPLEX - DUNIDEN, Florida

The Junior National Team losses their final exhibition match up in preparation for the 2022 WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup. The JNT fell to Chinese Taipei 8-4 despite out hitting their opponent nine to eight.

Max Hartman (St. Albert, AB) also had himself a good day at the dish finishing the day 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Sam White (Aurora, ON) also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 and scoring one for the Juniors.

Elliott Cadieaux-Lanoue (St-Pie, QC) was the starter for the Juniors on this one working two complete innings, allowing four runs in only three hits. Nick Frers (North Vancouver, BC) was the first out of the bullpen working two strong frames of two hits, and no earned runs while striking out a batter. Junior National Team 4-4 Team Australia

PIRATE CITY - BRADENTON, Florida

The Junior National Team battled Team Australia to a 4-4 tie on the second international exhibition game of the camp in preparation for the WBSC 18U Baseball World Cup. The JNT scored four runs in eight hits as they couldn’t keep Australia in check during the late innings.

Reece Usselman (Langley, BC) was the starter for the Juniors working three scoreless innings, limiting Australia’s offence to only two hits and a free pass while striking out four. Chase Marshall (Surrey, BC) was the first off the bullpen working two strong innings of one run, despite only giving up one hit while walking and striking out a pair. Jack Pineau (Thunder Bay, ON) started the game on the mound after a short rain delay working two innings of no runs, allowing only two hits, and striking out four. Zak Szabo (Whitby, ON) came in to close the actions for the Juniors but got his outing cut out short as the right-hander left the game after only two thirds of an inning after being hit by a comebacker. Szabo was fine after the play but was taken out as a precautionary measure.

Offensively the Juniors were led by Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) and Sam Shaw (Victoria, BC) both collecting two hits on three and four at bats respectively. Dylan O’Rae (Sarnia, ON) was the spark at the top of the lineup with a 1-for-3 performance scoring a pair and stealing a pair of bags. Sam White (Aurora, ON) had a good day at the plate as well producing a run for his team over his 1-for-3 performance at the dish. Deiten Lachance (Sherbrook, QC) collected the only extra base hit for the Juniors with an RBI double on the bottom of the second inning.

Junior National Team 2-19 Team USA
PIRATE CITY - BRADENTON, Florida

The Junior National Team watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 19-2 loss to Team USA on the first international exhibition game tune-up for both nations. The Juniors struggled defensively, committing five errors, and allowing 19 runs.

The Juniors had a tough time offensively despite collecting six hits, all coming from different players in the lineup. Sam Shaw (Victoria, BC) scored both runs and stole a base for the Juniors on this one over his 1-for-2 performance.
