OTTAWA- The West Prince Minor Baseball Association from PEI has become the 10th baseball association in Canada to become RBI (Reaching Baseball Ideals) Approved. They also become the first association from PEI to be RBI approved since Baseball Canada began the program in 2008.
“We decided to get RBI Approved because we wanted to show PEI and Canada that our numbers are increasing,” said Kendal Hackett, the President of the West Prince Minor Baseball Association. “We offer coach training, umpire training and the Rally Cap program. We wanted to get out publicly (by becoming RBI Approved) and I think this will help our numbers continue to increase.”
By adopting the RBI Program, West Prince has made a commitment to development programs, coach training, accessibility and membership with Baseball Canada.
“We are better off because this will help our numbers grow, it will give our association a base and platform to continue to grow in the future,” continued Mr. Hackett.
Mr. Hackett points to the hard work of many volunteers, working with Baseball PEI and Baseball Canada’s Kelsey McIntosh to complete the process of becoming RBI Approved.
“We have an excellent group of volunteers who help run our ball programs,” explained Mr. Hackett. “I found out about the RBI Program through Baseball PEI and Baseball Canada who worked with us to change our Rally Cap Program in order to meet the criteria.
The West Prince Minor Baseball Association started in 2001 after Mr. Gerald Keough introduced baseball in nearby Tignish back in 1962. The association currently has over 60 players.
