Women’s National Team Development Camp Opens in Cary, North Carolina

CARY, NC – The Women’s National Team Development Camp officially got underway Tuesday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, where 26 athletes will train and compete from October 15–19.

Canada closes international competition against the WNTDP Stars

In the nightcap against the WNTDP Stars, Canada Black showed resilience in a 13–2 decision, highlighted by solid plate appearances and a clean finish on the mound.

Ashlynn Jolicoeur (Whitby, ON) and Emma Howorth (Toronto, ON) recorded hits, while Océane Lambert (Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, QC) reached safely three times and swiped a base to in a Canadian offence that saw a lot of traffic around the bases.

Juliette Kladko (Vancouver, BC) was doing it in both sides of the ball in game two of the doubleheader, tossing a scoreless frame in relief and finishing her day with a perfect 1-for-1 at the plate.

Mikael Fields (Shortts Lake, NS) followed Kladko on the mound with a scoreless frame of her own before passing the ball to Liz Gilder (Port Moody, BC) who struck out two in the final inning of the ballgame.  

Canada bats find rhythm in game one vs. WNTDP Stripes

Canada opened Saturday’s doubleheader against the Stripes, piling up 11 hits in a 14–6 result that still showcased meaningful offensive progress.

Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, BC) led the way at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple, double, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Lucie Anctil (La Pocatiére, QC) added two hits and two RBIs, while Cassie Matlock (Edmonton, AB) drove in three. Ela Day-Bédard (Gatineau, QC) reached twice and scored twice, and Andréanne LeBlanc (Mont-Saint-Hillaire, QC) chipped in a multi-hit effort that included a double.

On the other side of the ball, Alli Schroder (Fruitvale, BC) tossed two innings of no earned runs, allowing three hits and striking out one.

Canada 3-18 USA Stripes

Canada wrapped up its doubleheader at the Women’s National Team Development Camp with a 18–3 loss to the USA Stripes squad at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Despite the result, the Canadians continued to emphasize growth and game experience, with several players turning in solid performances at the plate.

Alizée Gélinas (Trois-Riviéres, QC) led the offense with two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Mikael Fields (Saskatoon, SK), Juliette Kladko (Vancouver, BC), and Makenna Dobrowolsky (Saskatoon, SK) each added hits of their own. Sarah Pengelly (Burnaby, BC) drew two walks and scored a run, while Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, BC) and Cassie Matlock (Edmonton, AB) each swiped a base as part of Canada’s active approach on the base paths.

The pitching group of Emma Lecompte (Kelowna, BC), Liz Gilder (Port Moody, BC), Kyanna Faucher (Beauce, QC), and Ally Neufeld (Boisevain, MB) shared the workload on the mound, collecting key outs and continuing to gain valuable reps against strong opposition.

Canada will return to action Friday as the Development Camp schedule continues at the National Training Complex in Cary.

Canada 2-4 USA Stars

The Canadian Women’s National Team Development Camp featured international competition on day two of the program as Canada dropped a close 4–2 decision to the USA Stars in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

While the result went to the hosts, the Canadian side demonstrated depth and quality pitching throughout seven innings. Juliette Kladko (Vancouver, BC), Alizée Gélinas (Trois-Riviéres, QC), Mikael Fields (Shortts Lake, NS), and Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, BC) combined to allow just two earned runs, striking out four and holding the Stars’ bats to scattered contact across the afternoon.

Offensively, Ela Day-Bédard (Gatineau, QC) provided a spark, tripling and scoring one of Canada’s two runs, while Lucie Anctil (La Procatiére, QC) added an RBI single. Alli Schroeder (Fruitvale, BC) showed good plate discipline, reaching base twice and scoring a run as Canada

Canada Black 7-6 Canada Red

The first day of camp featured a full team workout before players took the field for intersquad action, marking the first live game opportunity of the week. All rostered athletes made appearances as Team Black edged Team Red 7-6, rallying late to complete an exciting opening-day comeback.

Canada will continue preparations tomorrow with another on-field session before opening a four-game series against USA Baseball Development Teams later in the week.
