U18 World Cup Qualifier: Canada falls to USA

Canada 4-10 USA

SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – The Junior National Team fell behind early and couldn’t recover ending on the wrong side of a 10-4 ballgame against the United States. With the loss Canada fails to qualify for the Super Round after a fourth-place finish in Group B with a 1-3 record.

Elliot Cadieux-Lanoue (St-Pie, QC) was the starter on the mound for the Juniors working only one inning of five earned runs despite giving up just one hit and striking out a pair of batters. Matthew Brown (Carlisle, ON) came on in relief in the second inning and worked two and two thirds innings of three earned runs on three hits while fanning four. Benjamin Soke (New Maryland, NB) put a stop to the bleeding in the middle innings, working an inning and a third of no earned runs while striking out four out of the seven hitters he faced. Matthew Donnison (Niagara Falls, ON) was the last Canadian arm out of the bullpen working the last two innings of the game permitting two runs on two hits while striking out three.

The Junior National Team's bats were sparked late in the game thanks to a Jorge Valdes (Milton, ON) solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning that got the Canadians on the board. Valdes would finish the day 3-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Ty Doucette (Dartmouth, NS) also had a nice day at the plate finishing with a 2-for-4 performance with a run batted in. Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) had a perfect day as well as he puts up a 1-for-1 performance with three walks and an RBI.

Canada will play Peru on November 10th and Cuba on November 12th in placement round games.
