Japan Toshiba too much for Canada

PRINCE GEORGE- Japan Toshiba Baseball scored early and often as they pounded Canada 14-3 in round-robin play at the World Baseball Challenge.

The game was called after the top of the 7^th inning due to rain.

The loss evens Canada’s record at two wins and two losses with one round-robin game remaining.

Japan Toshiba scored four runs in the 1^st inning on the strength of a two-run double from Ryuta Matsunaga and a two-run single by Masato Ohkawara.

After giving up another run in the 2^nd inning, Canadian starter Brett Lawson (Mississauga, ON) was chased from the game in the 3rd, an inning that saw Japan Toshiba break the game wide-open with six more runs.

Canada broke the shutout bid in the 5^th inning when Greg Wallace (Nanaimo, BC) led-off with a solo homerun.

In the 6^th, with Japan Toshiba now in front 14-1, Canada scored a run when Colin Moro’s (Calgary, AB) double scored Rob Recuenco (Vancouver, BC).

Canada went on to score another run in the 7^th as Mark Ellis (Maple Ridge, BC) scored on a Recuenco single, before the rain hit to end the game.
