OTTAWA- The World University Baseball Championships start on July 30th and run until August 7th in Tokyo, Japan.
Thunder Bay- Philip Dierdrick (Ajax, ON) drilled an opposite field grand slam in the top of the 1st inning and the Junior National Team hung on to beat Korea 5-4. The win moved the JNT’s record to 2 wins and 1 loss in the tournament with two round-robin games remaining.
Thunder Bay- In front of a raucous home crowd at a jam packed Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay, the Junior National Team mashed their way to a 9-2 victory over the Netherlands to open the World Junior Baseball Championships.
Thunder Bay- Cuba received a bases loaded single in the top of the 8th inning, breaking a scoreless tie and went on to beat the Junior National Team 3-0 at Port Arthur Stadium. The base hit that rolled into left- field scored two runs and shifted the momentum in Cuba’s favour. Up to that point, the game had featured solid defence and spectacular pitching from both sides.
North York-After rain delayed the start of play, day-two of the Senior Women’s Invitational got underway late in the morning. The rain forced the tournament to be played on two different fields. Here is a recap of each of the 5 games played:
THUNDER BAY - Baseball Canada announces today the final roster for the World Junior Baseball Championship in Thunder Bay from July 23-August 1.
North York- The Senior Women’s Invitational got underway at Bond Park in North York. Here is a game-by-game recap of the action on Day 1 of the tournament.
St. Cloud MN- Team USA scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and limited the JNT to one-hit on the evening en-route to a 9-0 win at Faber Field. This was the final tune-up game before the start of the World Junior Baseball Championship on July 23rd.
OTTAWA- The 2010 Senior Women’s Invitational tournament will be played from July 22-25 at Bond Park in Toronto. The event will feature six teams vying for a championship. The teams that will be represented this year include: Alberta, Nova Scotia, two teams representing Ontario (Ontario and Ontario 2), the defending champions from Québec and the Québec Midget team. The event will also be used to select player’s that will compete for a spot on the Women’s National Team. Head Coach of the Women’s National Team, André Lachance is extremely excited about the upcoming tournament and the future of the event in Canada.
St. Cloud MN- Three pitchers combined to strikeout fourteen JNT batter’s and the Taiwanese used two, 2-run innings to shutout the JNT 4-0. The afternoon contest at Faber Field was the second-to-last exhibition game that the JNT will play before the start of the World Junior Baseball Championships in Thunder Bay, beginning July 23rd.
