Kindersley, SK- For the third consecutive day, rain wreaked havoc at the Baseball Canada Cup causing a delay of games. Eventually the round-robin portion of the tournament did conclude. The following is a recap of all six games that were played on Day 4.

Kindersley, SK- Tom Robson (Ladner, BC) was magnificent on the mound as BC shut-out Ontario 4-0 to claim their second straight Gold Medal at the Baseball Canada Cup. Robson dazzled as he threw a complete game 3 hitter, allowing only 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 9 Ontario batters.

Ottawa, ON- After the unfortunate incident that saw a member of Hong Kong hit with a stray bullet in the lower leg, the Women’s World Cup will continue in Venezuela. The incident occurred on August 13th in the city of Caracas and all games scheduled for August 14th were suspended, including a game between Canada and Hong Kong. The team from Hong Kong has decided to return home, however the other 10 remaining teams have decided to stay and will continue with the tournament. All tournament games will now take place in the city of Maracay.

Caracas, Venezuela-A five run fifth inning was enough for Canada to earn their first win at the IV Women’s World Cup in Caracas, Venezuela. Autumn Mills (London, ON) came in relief for Kate Psota (Burlington, ON) in the 4th inning to pick up the win for Canada. Offensively, Nicole Luchanski (Edmonton, AB) went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Becky Hartley (White Rock, BC) with 2 runs scored and Stephanie Savoie (La Pocatiére, QC) went 1 for 2, with a double and an RBI to pace Canada offensively.

Canada Rallies to Defeat Chinese Taipei

Caracas, Venezuela-Canada came back from a 6-2 deficit late in the game to defeat Chinese Taipei 7-6 in Caracas improving their record to 2-0 in Pool A at the Women’s World Cup. The winning run came on a suicide squeeze by Karine Gagne (Granby, QC) who scored Autumn Mills (London, ON) with one out in the bottom of the 7th inning. Vanessa Riopel (Repentigny, QC), who came in relief in the 5th inning, was almost perfect on the mound to pick up the win.
