Deglan First Canadian Selected in MLB Draft

OTTAWA- Kellin Deglan (Langley,BC) was the first Canadian selected in the MLB Draft. The left handed hitting catcher was chosen 22nd overall in the first round by the Texas Rangers. This marks the fourth consecutive year that a Canadian has been chosen in the first round.

GUERRA – After two straight days of rain outs, the Junior National Team got back on the field to complete its Dominican Summer League Camp schedule.  Unfortunately the results were not what they had hoped for as the JNT dropped their two final games, first a 9-7 defeat at the hands of the New York Mets, then a 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

BOCA CHICA – A back and forth game one saw the Junior National Team and the Tampa Bay Rays play to a 6-6 draw, but the San Francisco Giants chipped away and earned an 8-1 victory over the JNT in game two at the Dominican Summer League Camp.

SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS – A four-run fourth inning by the Texas Rangers created enough of a gap that the Junior National Team could not comeback in a 8-5 game one loss, but a three-run ninth inning salvaged a tie against the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 5-5.

BOCA CHICA – The Junior National Team continues to find the ways to be successful down in the Dominican with the pitching staff giving a solid performance and some timely hitting from the offence, and the Canadians were able to hold on for a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Phillies at the Dominican Summer League Camp.

GUANUMA – The Junior National Team were shut down for most of game one against the Seattle Mariners, but were able to capitalize on key errors by the Milwaukee Brewers in game two on route to splitting their doubleheader with the two clubs by a score of 9-1 and 10-8 respectively in the Dominican Summer League Camp.

BOCA CHICA – Mike Ellis (Surrey, BC) threw five shutout innings and the Junior National Team offence produced when it needed to on route to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins in their opener of the Dominican Summer League Camp.
