Maracay, Venezuela- The Women’s National Team left runners on base in five different innings and were beaten soundly by a score of 10-1 against Team USA. The game was the first of three games in Round 2 at the Women’s World Cup. With the way the tournament in structured your record versus teams that also advanced to Round 2, count towards your overall record. This means that Canada currently has a record of 1 win and 2 losses in Round 2.
OTTAWA- This past June’s First Year Player Draft saw 31 Canadians selected to various Major League Baseball clubs. August 16th was the last day for MLB clubs to sign any of the players that they drafted. The following is a list of the 19 players that did sign. Included is round, # selected overall, team drafted by, name, position and hometown.
Maracay, Venezuela- After tying the game in the top of the 7th inning, the Women’s National Team lost their first game of the Women’s World Cup in 8 innings by a score of 3-2 to Venezuela. The winning run was scored in the extra frame when a base-hit was made to left field scoring a runner from 3rd base. International extra-innings rules are structured so that a team places runners on 1st and 2nd base and chooses which batter they would like to send to the plate. Venezuela used a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd and received a base-hit to left field by the next batter to win the game.
Maracay, Venezuela-The Women’s National Team resumed play at the IV Women’s World Cup of Baseball in Maracay, Venezuela Monday morning with a solid effort and convincing win over The Netherlands by a score of 12-1 in five innings.
Kindersley, SK- For the third consecutive day, rain wreaked havoc at the Baseball Canada Cup causing a delay of games. Eventually the round-robin portion of the tournament did conclude. The following is a recap of all six games that were played on Day 4.
Caracas, Venezuela-The Venezuela host committee, IBAF and team representatives convened on Saturday for a number of meetings to determine the fate of the 2010 Women’s World Cup in Caracas and Maracay, Venezuela.
Kindersley, SK- Tom Robson (Ladner, BC) was magnificent on the mound as BC shut-out Ontario 4-0 to claim their second straight Gold Medal at the Baseball Canada Cup. Robson dazzled as he threw a complete game 3 hitter, allowing only 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 9 Ontario batters.
Kindersley, SK- After a rain delay lasted nearly six hours, play resumed at the Baseball Canada Cup with three games played. The following is a recap of all three contests.
The following statement was released by the IBAF:
Ottawa, ON- After the unfortunate incident that saw a member of Hong Kong hit with a stray bullet in the lower leg, the Women’s World Cup will continue in Venezuela. The incident occurred on August 13th in the city of Caracas and all games scheduled for August 14th were suspended, including a game between Canada and Hong Kong. The team from Hong Kong has decided to return home, however the other 10 remaining teams have decided to stay and will continue with the tournament. All tournament games will now take place in the city of Maracay.
